The 2011 Training of Trainers for Translation and Interpreting, co-hosted by Translators Association of China (TAC) and China National Committee for MTI Education, was held in Beijing International Studies University from July 16 to 26.
Mr. Huang Youyi, Vice President of China International Publishing Group (CIPG), Vice President of FIT and TAC, and Director of China National Committee for MTI Education, addressed the opening session. He introduced the development of translation and interpreting into an independent discipline as demonstrated by the introduction of Master of Translation and Interpreting (MTI) program in 2007, and the goals and features of the joint TOT program organized by TAC and China National Committee for MTI Education.
The training was divided into two independent stages:
Entrance level (7 days) focusing on the concepts and principles of professional training and translation pedagogy, and
Advanced level (4 days) for deans and second timers focusing on management of professional translation education and latest development in T/I education.
The training was offered by a team composed of 21 gurus who are not only experienced T/I practitioners but also dedicated T/I teachers and researchers.
Besides this, another training – TAC Advanced Training on English-Chinese T/I Skills, was also held during the same period. Hosted by TAC, the newly developed training program is taught face-to-face in small classes, targeting at those already in the profession but aspiring for better performance.
This is the second time that China National Committee for MTI Education and TAC worked jointly on TOT programs for T/I teachers since 2010.
The Training received generous support from the Graduate School of Translation, Interpretation & Language Education, Monterey Institute of International Studies (MIIS) as well as Beijing International Studies University, Transemantix Institute of Interpretation & Translation, and Beijing Chagoo Culture Development Co., Ltd.
