On 20 June 2016, FIT President Henry Liu visited China International Publishing Group (CIPG), the Translators Association of China (TAC) and the National Translation Test and Appraisal Centre (CATTI) after attending the 8th APTIF in Xi’an.
Mr. Zhou Mingwei, President of CIPG and TAC met with President Liu and exchanged views on the development of the TTI profession. They reached consensus that the cooperation between FIT and TAC should be enhanced to better promote and protect the interest of translators, interpreters and terminologists in China and the wider world. President Liu also received an interview at China.org.cn, a national online news service in China.
During his stay in Beijing and Xi’an, President Liu also delivered lectures to TAC’s members and to teachers and students at Xi’an International Studies University（XISU）and Xi’an Fanyi University respectively, on the important topic of “Is this the right career for me?-An overview of the future of translation, interpreting profession and the language industry” .
He also visited Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd, the world’s leading telecommunications corporation and Baidu, China’s number one search engine, and communicated with the translation and localization departments of the two companies, which demonstrated their state-of-the art technologies for language services.
FIT Council member and Vice President of the Australian Institute of Interpreters and Translators Alison Lucre accompanied President Liu in the above visits, and promoted FIT World Congress 2017, which is scheduled to be held on August 3-5, 2017 in Brisbane, Australia.
President Liu and other members of the FIT Executive Committee held the EC meeting in Xi’an on June 16, and then attended the 8th APTIF held on June 17-18. During the forum, Governor Hu Heping of Shaanxi Province met with the FIT EC members, and spoke highly of the importance of translation and interpreting in cross-cultural communication.
